An overview of a trip to Sri Lanka and Vietnam
You don’t know which destination to choose between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Here is an overview of the sites to discover in these two Asian treasures.
Countries blessed by Mother Nature
As in many Asian destinations, a trip to Vietnam and Sri Lanka will allow you to discover nature in all its splendor.
Concerning the vegetation, it is more diverse and more prosperous on Sri Lankan territory. This region has, in fact, a large floristic repertoire, namely mangrove trees in abundance on its beaches, fruit trees in the coastal plains and tropical forests in its mountainous regions.
On the other hand, Vietnam displays a completely different setting with a landscape shared between primary forests and temperate forests, without forgetting savannahs and steppes. In addition, these two tourist centers in Asia are ideal for observing wildlife, due to their richness in animal species. The kingdom of Ceylon is home, for example, to tigers, black panthers, buffaloes and many other species. The Asian elephant is a flagship specimen of this last category. Vietnamese lands, for their part, constitute a refuge for a wide variety of birds, fish, snakes, reptiles and mammals.
Activities to undertake in these 2 regions
There is no shortage of activities to do in these two Asian countries and there is something for everyone. You can, among other things, try elephant riding during your trip to Sri Lanka. This is a great alternative for exploring remote areas in the high mountains, but sometimes requires a guide. If you’re feeling more adventurous, opt for a hike in Horton Plains National Park or Sinharaja Forest Reserve on the Sri Lankan side, and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park on Vietnamese territory. If you are more passionate about water sports, you should know that these countries both have wide coastlines overlooking the sea. The seaside cities of Vietnam like NhaTrang and Mui Ne will, for example, delight windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts. There are also numerous diving sites in Sri Lanka, to name only Trincomalee and Hikkaduwa.
Some remarkable sites not to be missed
Know that a trip to Asia is not just limited to observing the fauna and flora. It is also an encounter with an ancient civilization which has managed to keep its heritage and traditions. If you stay in Sri Lanka, for example, you will have the opportunity to visit the Cultural Triangle. These are 4 UNESCO heritage sites including Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Dambulla and Sigiriya. You will discover remains of ancient cities and representations of Buddha in all his forms.
In addition, the Vietnamese capital Hanoi will undoubtedly seduce you with its magnificent urban landscape where skyscrapers, religious temples and Buddhist pagodas intertwine. There you will find places of interest such as the Long Biên Bridge, ThốngNhấtle Park and the small HoanKiem Lake home to sacred turtles.
